I am not the biggest fan of pizza – I know, please don’t come for me. Now, I do like the cheesy goodness every now and then and I will obviously not say no if my boyfriend asks me to get pizza. But if I have a choice, I will definitely choose something else.
What I do love though are pizza rolls. They are just like cinnamon rolls but filled with cheese, tomato sauce and all kinds of toppings. There is an undefined number of recipes for sauce and an ongoing discussion about toppings (pineapple does go on pizza, duh!), but for me, the dough is the hardest part. It has taken me years to find a good recipe for pizza dough.
But – low and behold – here it is! The perfect homemade pizza dough.
Ingredients
- 500g flour
- 300ml water, lukewarm
- 2tsp salt
- 5g fresh yeast
Directions
Sift the flour and the salt into a large bowl. Dissolve the yeast in lukewarm water and add to the flour-salt mixture. Knead the ingredients for 20 minutes in a bread machine or with a hand mixer/KitchenAid. Do not knead by hand.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and leave to rise for 2 hours.
Divide the risen dough into four parts and leave to rise for another six hours under a damp kitchen towel.
Roll out the dough as thinly as possible. Preheat the oven with a baking tray as hot as possible. Place the pizza on the baking tray and bake for about five minutes.
